Tree Rules

by Darren Holmquist

Please read all of these rules and follow them! Rules are very important to a successful tree and if you all want to do this kind of thing again sometime, then follow them!!!

  1. Only send the TYPE of CD-R specified by your branch leader. If it says "Computer CD-R" then don't buy the types made for those home audio recorder and if it says "Audio CD-R" then you better send an "Audio CD-R" or else you will be getting back a blank cd. And wouldn't that just be a waste of everyone's time? If you are in doubt - ask your branch leader or me!
  2. There will be absolutely NO money exchanging here... if I hear about anyone profiting off of this I'm not gonna be happy. Then, I'll sick Alison on you. [Ed note: eek!]
  3. YOU are responsible for knowing the postage to get the cd back to you - the only thing your branch should have to do is copy the cd and stick them back in the envelope that you provided. It's not fair to them to have to go to the post office on your behalf - these people are being cool enough to donate their time to copy the cd for you so don't screw with them. :-)
  4. Follow the following B&P rules or whatever rules your branch leader provides for you - these are a good start though.

B & P Rules

These rules are summarized from the McNichol page - I take no credit!

You will need:

  • A blank CD-R - it's important to supply the person burning the cd for you with a CD-R that is compatible with their system. Personally, I will take anything EXCEPT for Hi-Val.
  • 1 bubble envelope - big enough to hold the cd. PLEASE try to avoid buying the mailers that are padded with paper fiber. They are terrible for millions of reasons.
  • 1 larger envelope - (doesn't have to be bubble) has to be big enough to hold the your bubble envelope AND your cd.
  • Case Logic or paper sleeves - Jewel cases just bump the price of shipping and they sometimes don't survive the postal service. It may be worth it to use a paper sleeve, and add some stiff cardboard to mail the cd in.

Now once you have these items this is what you do with them:

  1. Take the blank disc and place it in the jewel case or paper sleeve.
  2. Address the bubble envelope to reflect that it will be coming FROM your branch leader TO YOU.
  3. Put the disc into the bubble mailer.
  4. Write a short note explaining the B&P deal you've arranged (Del Amitri Tribute CD), including your e-mail address and stick this in the bubble envelope also. DO NOT seal the bubble mailer.
  5. Take the larger envelope and address it to reflect that it will be coming FROM YOU, TO your branch leader.
  6. Put the UNSEALED bubble mailer into the larger envelope.
  7. Take both of these envelopes to your local post office.
  8. At the post office, have them weigh the bubble mailer, with the cd and note inside, and buy STAMPS for what first class postage would be for it. Do NOT get metered postage for this package. Just tell the clerk that you need to put return postage stamps on the package. Put the needed postage on the bubble mailer IN STAMPS.
  9. Then put the bubble mailer UNSEALED into the larger envelope and SEAL the larger one. Put the required first class postage on it (metered postage is OK here) and off it goes.

It could take your branch anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks to get your copy back to you.

If it is going to take you more than a week to get the cd out then please e-mail your branch leader first to make sure they still have time to do this for you. If you send without a confirmation from your branch then there is a chance you will get the cd back without anything burned on them.
