Subject: del amitri - groovey tubes

Alison,
Last night I saw Del Amitri playing under the name Groovey Tubes in a
tent on Glasgow Green. It was an odd night - pretty surreal in places.
The Dels came on first and played three new songs called "Medicine",
"Cruel Light of Day" and "Mother Nature's Writing" plus "Always The Last
To Know", "Just Like A Man" and "Driving With The Brakes On". Then they
went off for half an hour and came back on as a backing band for various
Scottish singers who all did 2 or 3 songs each. They were Kevin McDermott
(Kevin McDermott Orchestra/The Orphans), James Grant (Friends Again/Love
and Money), Chris Thomson (Friends Again/Bathers) and Midge Ure
(Ultravox). Then came the surreal moment - they played 'Love Train' by
the O'Jays with Chris Thomson singing and James Grant and Kevin McDermott
on backing vocals. That was supposed to be the end, but after much
cheering the Dels came back on and did "When we were young", "Kiss this
thing goodbye" and "This side of the morning". And after that, everyone
else came back on and they did "Love Train" again. Bizarre or what? It
was a great night. Justins' hair was almost down to his eyes, and his
sideburns are even bigger. Iain has shaved all his facial hair off, which
made him quite difficult to recognise!
Anyway, sorry if I've bored you but thought you'd be interested.
Cheers,
David
